What can YOU do?

Contacting your State Elected Officials is a good start!

Contacting your state legislators is easy and extremely important. By sharing your opinions and ideas with your elected officials, you help them decide what to do about gun safety issues and how to vote on pending gun legislation. Many citizens fret and complain, but few actually take the time to let their state representative know their concerns. Your state representatives hear from the gun lobby constantly. Now they need to hear from YOU.

Let's get started!

Step 1: Please visit http://conview.state.va.us/whosmy.nsf/main?openform type in your address (with zip code!) to find out contact information for both your state delegate and state senator.

Step 2: You can either send both of them an e-mail or contact them individually. Your e-mail or letter doesn't have to be long or eloquent. A few sentences will suffice. Just let them know you are a constituent and that you support sensible gun laws.

You can also call them. During the legislative session, you can contact them in Richmond; otherwise you can call their local telephone number. Most likely, you will speak with an assistant. Again, give them your name and let them know you are a constituent. Tell them to

  • keep guns off school grounds and college campuses.
  • close the "gun show loophole."
  • limit high-capacity ammunition magazines.

That's pretty much all there is to it.

Please don't delay--contact your state representative today!
